Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, isn’t the biggest fan of remote work and working from home it seems.
The billionaire apparently sent an email to all his Tesla employees, saying that remote work is no longer acceptable.
40 hours in office, no more WFH
He said that employees who wish to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum of 40 hours every week, if not they can leave the company.
He said that “this is less than we ask of factory workers”.
He added that the office in question has to be a main Tesla office and not a remote branch office that is unrelated to their job duties, such as being responsible for factory human relations in Fremont but having their office in another state.
The email was apparently leaked by an undisclosed source, and the authenticity of the email has since been confirmed by Reuters.

If no show, we assume you resigned
Musk then sent another follow up email titled “to be super clear”, warning that employees who do not show up for their minimum 40 in-office hours, will be assumed to have resigned.
He added that the more senior an employee is, the more visible their presence must be; as he used himself as an example – “that is why I lived int he factory so much, so that those on the line could see me working alongside them. If i had not done that, Tesla would long ago have gone bankrupt.”
Seemingly firing shots at other companies that don’t require this, he asked “when was the last time they shipped a great new product? It’s been a while.”
