In the post, the employee says that he or she has been working for the business owner since May and at the start of July had sent his or her timesheet to the boss.

The employer also told the netizen that the wages would be transferred to them by a end of a particular week but the employer ended up owing the netizen wages till date.

Here is the story

“I’m working part time for a small local business with <5 employees since May. I sent my hours to boss at the start of July, boss said will transfer by end of last week, I asked again this weekend, still unread. I haven’t had to work again so no chance to ask in person. Its not a very huge amount (500-1k) but I’m worried as I didn’t sign any contract and everything was over messaging. Should I contact boss again?”

Here are what netizens think

  • Please don’t ever work without a signed contract. You are still due your salary regardless but not having a signed contract makes it a little more difficult to throw the book at the errant employer.
  • If the key terms of employment (e.g. pay and hours to work) were mentioned and agreed upon in your messages, you do have a contract. Please file an employment-related claim at the TADM website ASAP if your ex-employer still does not reply. There is a time limit on these types of claims. Ofc, give chance first la. Bug them a bit more, then tell them you’ll report them if they don’t reply/ pay up first.
  • Call him lah. Tell him your grandmother needs the money to pay doctor. When can he transfer to you. Sometimes people very busy never read text.
