Jimmy Chan’s Filipino maid, 34-year-old Julie Ann Lucero, became gravely sick on February 2021 and has since been warded at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital’s ICU.
Julie reportedly suffered from mutiple organ failures because of severe blood poisoning, and has since been diagnosed with tuberculosis.
She was warded for 27 days and her medical fees have accumulated to a whopping S$120,000.
Julie then decided to return back to her home country for treatment due to the rising medical bills and her repatriation fees amounted to S$45,000.
Chan said that he is willing to help Julie pay her medical bills but he is unable to afford it, as his medical insurance that he bought for her could only cover up to $30,000 (plus $10,000 for her repatriation).
Chan and his wife are salaried workers and have 2 daughters aged 14 and 18.
He then set up a donation drive for Julie on GiveAsia, which has so far raised about $95,000.
He is appealing to the public for donations to help with the mounting debt.
