Employer own workers salary and cancel their work permit without notifying them

A total of 50 construction workers have reported to the Ministry of Manpower that their employer the Audi construction, a subcontractor specialising in building structures owed them at least two months of salary.

Audi construction were working on Ang Mo Kio Nursing Home project for main contractor Kian Hiap Construction.

19 out of 50 of the China workers had received their salary owned to them had flown back to their hometown yesterday.

Mr Zhao Sheng Wei 34 years old said “I was owed about SGD5,000 in salary for September through to last month, we had no money to eat, no money even to take the train to the ministry.”

21 of the workers said “We were owed a total of SGD80,000 by our boss Xu Xi Bin and had cancelled our work permit without notifying us.”

Mr Xu said “I had no money to pay the workers as I has been owed money by main contractor Kian Hiap since September.”

“The workers had agreed to finish the project and then claim the salaries they were owed, but they later refused to work. I had no choice but to cancel their work permits.”

Some of the workers had no choice but to return home after receiving a small amount of the owned salary to them as they had family back in their hometown to feed.
