Lao Huo Tang Group Pte Ltd, licensee of ENG’s Wanton Noodles, fined $3,300 for the sale of food unfit for consumption
Lao Huo Tang Group Pte Ltd, licensee of ENG’s Wanton Noodles, was fined $3,300 by the Court today for selling food unfit for consumption.
2 In May 2021, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) received multiple feedback involving 68 affected cases who exhibited suspected gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food at ENG’s Wanton Noodles, located at 287 Tanjong Katong Road.
3 A joint investigation with the Ministry of Health (MOH) was conducted, which found that the ready-to-eat food items such as char siew and choi sim prepared failed the microbiological limits stipulated under the Singapore Food Regulations. SFA suspended the food business operations of ENG’s Wanton Noodles located at 287 Tanjong Katong Road from 18 May 2021 to 28 Jun 2021.
4 Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA continues to be vigilant and works to ensure that the regulatory measures are in place and properly enforced, the industry and consumers should also play their part.
5 All food operators should ensure that their premises are clean and well-maintained, and staff are adequately trained on proper food safety management. SFA will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act. Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000 and, in the case of a continuing offence, to a further fine not exceeding $100 for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues after conviction.
6 Members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are advised not to patronise them and provide feedback via our online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback) with details for our follow-up investigations.
