ERRANT CYCLIST CYCLING ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITHOUT A HELMET ON

A video emerged online showing an errant cyclist blatantly flouting the law by cycling on the expressway and not wearing a helmet as well.

The incident happened on 10 January at about 3.30pm, on the Teban Flyover.

The man was seen cycling on the shoulder of the expressway with cars wheezing past him at the side, as he also had no form of protective gear on him as well.

Potential penalties

It is an offence to ride bicycles and electronic bikes on the expressways, persons caught riding bicycles on the expressways face a fine of $150.

It is mandatory for all cyclists to wear helmets when riding on roads. Those caught riding bicycles and power-assisted bicycles on roads without wearing a helmet can be fined up to $1,000 and/or jailed up to three months upon conviction for the first offence.
