He was sentenced to 9 weeks imprisonment for firing one round from his duty revolver without reason, inside a toilet cubicle at HarbourFront Centre on 8 January 2021.

What happened?

Goh was deployed at the OCBC bank branch at HarbourFront Centre on 8 January 2021 and was issued with a Taurus 85 revolver, which was loaded with five 0.38 inch live rounds, as well as another five found in a speed loader.

He then went to the 2nd-floor toilet at about 11.45am, and went into one of the cubicles, closing the door behind him.

He removed his utility belt which had the loaded gun on it, and put it on the ground in front of him while sitting on the toilet bowl.

he then removed the gun from his holster and was fiddling with it as he thought about his personal finances, before “rashly” squeezing the trigger.

One round was then discharged from the revolver that was pointing down, and the bullet then hit the floor.

Goh then reholstered the gun after relieving himself on the toilet and contacted the Certis Command Centre at about 11.50am, telling the operations manager that he discharged a gun inside the toilet.

Goh was then told to remain where he was and the police then arrived at 12.15pm, finding him still inside the toilet.

The gun was then examined by the police’s Armament Branch and found that Goh had intentionally pulled the revolver with enough pressure or cocked the hammer in order to discharge the live round.

Goh was found by an IMH doctor to have had a “transient situational reaction”, but was not diagnosed with any mental disorder(s).

He was also terminated by Certis Cisco.
