Earlier today (17 Nov), The National University of Singapore (NUS) has released a statement to confirm their finding regarding an outrage of modesty case which involves their former East Asian Institute director.
It was confirmed that a police report was made against the director on 13 May 2019.
Victim’s Claims
09 May 2018 – The accused placed his hand on her shoulder and head during a meeting.
30 May 2018 – The accused hugged the victim with her consent and patted her buttock.
Oct 2018 – The accused held onto her back while taking a group photo.
The incident first surfaced in Aug 2020, after the female staff wrote several posts on social media. She also criticised the management for the way they responded to her case. Through a lawyer, the director has denied all the claims for sexual harassment. He then states that his resignation was not due to the case.
During the investigations, the director was suspended from the school and he was prohibited to have any contact with EAI staff. The school’s internal investigation team found that at least one of the female staff’s claims appeared to be true.
The director had admitted that he had hugged the female staff without her consent while having a meeting in his office. However, the team was not able to prove that the other claims to be true due to lack of evidence.
