47-year-old Maslinda Zainal, the former Head of Department for English at Woodgrove Secondary School, was found guilty of two counts of criminal breach of trust as ap public servant last year.
She is set to begin her jail term of one and a half years after her appeal against her sentence was dismissed by a High Court judge on 12 August.
She was charged with the collection of money from students for learning packages, but she “over-collected” about $40,000 between January 2016 and April 2017.
The offences were discovered when the head of English for the school’s lower secondary students, checked the amounts collected against the bookshop invoices and discovered discrepancies.
Maslinda is set to start servicing her sentence in 2 weeks, and MOE added that Maslinda has since been suspended from her duties since 2017.
MOE added that disciplinary actions will be followed up after the culmination of her court case, and they said that they take a serious view of staff misconduct.
