As January is coming to an end, we can expect more thundery showers in the first two weeks of February, said the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) adding that showers in the afternoon may extend to the evening.
Most of Singapore island will have above average rainfall during this period.
The showers that will most likely arrive in the first few days of February will come with weather in Singapore expected to be generally warm and fair and it is brought by a mass of dry air over the Southeast Asian region which lies near the equator.
This will result in the equator having more monsoon rain and it therefore contributes to the thundery showers which we are expected to receive in the first two weeks next month.
It is expected to carry on for the first two weeks and the wind direction will be low level blowing from northwest or northeast.
A few days in the two weeks will see more widespread rain levels which range from moderate to thundery showers caused by the large scale convergence of winds over Singapore and the surrounding region.
As a result, the temperatures daily for the next two weeks will be around 24°C and 33°C, and it will hit a high of 34 °C a few of the days.
January’s weather review
The MSS also reviewed the weather in January and said that Singapore had experienced cool and wet weather between New Year’s Eve and Jan 2.
Between the pre-dawn hours and afternoon on Jan 2, widespread and continuous moderate rainfall over the island were seen.
The highest total rainfall for the month was at Lower Peirce Reservoir at 101.2mm and the average daily temperature was around 22.5°C to 35.4°C.
The lowest daily temperature was at Pasir Panjang on 20 Jan at 22.5°C.
