A tragic confrontation between two brothers turned deadly at a busy Bangkok intersection, leaving one man dead and the other in police custody. The incident unfolded on the afternoon of June 29 at around 3.30pm near the Suan Luang Intersection, shocking bystanders and drawing a swift police response.
Police Lieutenant Phisanu Inthrachai of Khlong Tan Police Station received an emergency call reporting the stabbing and dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Thanin in a state of distress, sitting beside his older brother Anurak, 34, who had already succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses described a scene of chaos and grief as emergency responders arrived.
Altercation Escalated During Motorcycle Ride
According to Thanin’s initial statement to authorities, the brothers were travelling together on a motorcycle when a heated argument broke out. The conflict allegedly escalated when Anurak pulled out a knife and attempted to stab Thanin. In the ensuing struggle, Thanin managed to seize the weapon from his brother, turning it against him in self-defence and delivering a fatal stab wound to Anurak’s throat.
Despite the seriousness of the injury, the brothers continued riding, intending to reach their home at the end of Soi Phatthanakan 20 Intersection 7. Anurak was reportedly driving the motorcycle with Thanin seated behind. However, partway through their journey, Anurak suddenly lost control, bringing the motorcycle to a halt before collapsing on the road.
Community Shocked, Police Proceed with Investigation
Residents nearby, alarmed by the sudden commotion, rushed to assist and called for emergency services. Paramedics arrived quickly, but Anurak had no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police secured the area and took Thanin into custody for further questioning to determine the circumstances leading up to the fatal altercation.
Investigators are now working to establish a clearer timeline of events and assess whether the stabbing was purely an act of self-defence or if other factors were involved. Authorities noted that the conflict between the siblings appeared to have been simmering for some time, with the altercation on the motorcycle being the culmination of unresolved personal disputes.
The police have indicated that they will proceed with legal action based on the outcome of their investigation, while the community remains shaken by the violence that erupted in broad daylight at one of Bangkok’s busy intersections.
