An elderly man and his son faced charges at the Muar Sessions Court on 16th July, for allegedly taking turns to rape a 15-year-old girl inside a car in Kluang, Malaysia; according to a report by Harian Metro.
What happened?
The incident took place in Kluang, where the accused, Mohd Hashim Saidin, 77, and his son, Muhammad Firdaus Abdullah, 21, were involved in the alleged crime.
The charges state that on 25th May 2017, at 5.15 pm, Muhammad Firdaus, who was 16 years old at the time, reportedly raped a 15-year-old teenage girl on Jalan Kinabalu, Kluang, as reported by Berita Harian.
Subsequently, it is alleged that Mohd Hashim committed the same heinous act on the same victim at 6 pm on the same day. The incident occurred in an open area near Kampung Abdul Rahman Yasin, Kluang, inside the same car.
Both the father and son duo were charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code. This section deals with rape offenses and carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane.
Court Proceedings
During the court hearing, which took place in front of Judge Abu Bakar Manat, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The proceedings were attended by Danial Munir, who represented the prosecution, while the two accused appeared without legal representation.
The court, considering the seriousness of the charges, remanded both the elderly man and his son into custody after they failed to pay the respective bail amounts of RM12,000 and RM15,000.
Told media to stop taking his photos
The elderly man was seen being wheeled out of the Sessions Court in his wheelchair as he told the media to stop taking photos of him.
His son was also seen escorted out of the court by police officers and he tried to shield his face from the cameras with his hand.
