On October 21, 2023, a group of cyclists was caught on video engaging in a heated dispute with a taxi driver right in the middle of Middle Road.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:25 AM, was captured and shared on the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, leaving many viewers both shocked and perplexed.
Cyclists riding in middle of road, behind taxi
The video opens with a group of approximately five cyclists pedaling in the left and middle lanes, closely following behind a taxi.
The tension began when the taxi driver decided to stop, positioning his vehicle about a car length behind the car in front of him, which had also halted due to a red traffic light.
As the taxi came to a halt, one of the cyclists narrowly avoided a collision with the taxi’s rear, causing him to stumble.
This near-accident prompted an unexpected turn of events. The group of cyclists swarmed around the taxi, creating a tense atmosphere on the road.
Fight in the middle of traffic
As the cyclists surrounded the taxi, an argument then ensued, with one of the cyclists capturing the heated exchange on camera.
The video begins with the taxi driver, evidently agitated, uttering the phrase, “Buay song lai lor” (not happy come lor!), laced with a flurry of profanities. The cyclists responded with a barrage of vulgar language, and the situation quickly escalated.
One of the cyclists confronted the taxi driver, repeatedly asking, “Why you jam brake?” The taxi driver retorted, “You cut in my lane. Why cannot jam brake?”
The argument continued, with the cyclist insisting that the taxi driver had braked unnecessarily, pointing to the considerable gap between the taxi and the car in front of it.
Cyclist Falls and Tempers Flare
In the midst of the dispute, the taxi driver then walked toward the front of his taxi and appeared to have bumped into a bicycle, causing it and the rider to fall down.
The cyclist, now seated on the road, asked one of this companions if they caught what just happened on camera.
