KUALA LUMPUR – Johor experienced yet another minor tremor early Friday morning, marking the fifth seismic event in the Segamat area within a week.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the tremor struck at 4.24am and registered a magnitude of 3.4. The epicentre was located 22 kilometres northeast of Segamat at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Although the quake was relatively mild, residents in nearby towns felt the tremor, prompting some to take precautionary measures and check for any structural damage at their homes.
Ongoing Monitoring and Precautionary Measures
MetMalaysia confirmed that it will continue to monitor the situation closely, tracking any aftershocks or additional tremors in the region. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines in the event of further seismic activity.
The recent spate of quakes has raised awareness about earthquake preparedness, especially in areas not commonly associated with strong seismic activity. Experts recommend securing heavy furniture, preparing emergency kits, and staying informed about official updates.
Segamat’s Earthquake History
While Johor is not typically known for frequent earthquakes, Segamat has experienced several minor tremors in recent years. Scientists continue to study local fault lines and seismic patterns to better understand potential risks and provide timely alerts to the public.
Residents are advised to stay calm and report any unusual ground movements to authorities to ensure swift response and safety measures.
