The offender, a Filipino national working in Singapore on a valid work permit at the time, admitted to a theft charge in court. The incidents took place between April and May 2026 and involved multiple visits to the same retail outlet.

Court documents showed that the woman targeted a supermarket located within Square 2 shopping mall along Sinaran Drive, making off with bottles of liquor and alcoholic drinks without paying for them.

Stolen Items Included Whisky, Soju And Sparkling Wine

Investigations revealed that she stole a total of 20 bottles of alcohol across 12 separate occasions. The items included premium whisky brands, flavoured soju and sparkling wine.

Among the products taken were several bottles of Chivas Regal, Chivas Regal Blue, Jack Daniel’s whiskey, Jinro Green Grape soju and a bottle of sparkling Moscato rosé.

The combined value of the stolen goods amounted to S$1,216. According to court records, she would place the alcoholic beverages into a personal blue shopping trolley before leaving the premises without making payment.

Stock Discrepancies Led To Discovery

The thefts only came to light after a stock check conducted by the supermarket management revealed inconsistencies in inventory levels.

Suspecting that items had been removed without payment, the store manager reviewed surveillance camera footage and allegedly observed the woman carrying out the thefts on multiple occasions.

A police report was subsequently lodged following the discovery.

The following day, the woman returned to the same supermarket. The manager recognised her from the surveillance footage and detained her while waiting for officers to arrive at the scene.

Partial Recovery Of Stolen Goods

Following her arrest, police managed to recover 14 of the stolen bottles.

However, the remaining alcoholic beverages could not be recovered. The woman reportedly told investigators that some of the bottles had already been consumed, while others had been given away to friends.

Court proceedings also heard that no compensation or restitution had been made to the supermarket for the losses incurred.

During sentencing, the woman expressed remorse for her actions and apologised to the court. She also said she hoped to return home and reunite with her family as soon as possible after serving her sentence.

The court ultimately imposed a four-week jail term for the offence.
