A fire broke out at 3A Tuas South Street 15 on 9 December at around 12.05 am, and the SCDF deployed a total of 50 firefighters to fight the inferno.
SCDF posted an update on the situation on their Facebook page:
“Fire @ No. 3A Tuas South Street 15.
At approximately 12.05 am today (9 Dec), SCDF responded to a fire at the above-mentioned location.
Upon arrival, SCDF immediately deployed its resources to surround and contain the fire which involved a large pile of waste measuring about 20 metres by 20 metres and 5 metres in height.
Firefighters had to don breathing apparatus sets to navigate the smoke-logged environment. The fire was brought under control within an hour.
A total of 50 firefighters were deployed for this operation. An Unmanned Firefighting Machine (UFM), seven water jets, and Compressed Air Foam were used to mitigate the fire. The UFM was also used to ventilate the premises.
A worker from the premises had evacuated prior to SCDF’s arrival. Damping down operations* are ongoing.
There were no reported injuries.
*Damping down refers to the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after the fire is put out. This is to prevent any potential rekindle of fire from the hot burnt surfaces.”
