A fire incident occurred today at approximately 11:40 AM at 20 Jalan Tenteram, prompting a swift response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). Firefighters from the Central Fire Station arrived on the scene to find that the fire had engulfed items placed along the corridor outside units on both the 2nd and 3rd floors. The flames had also spread into the interiors of these units.
Firefighting Efforts

Upon arrival, SCDF personnel quickly deployed two water jets to extinguish the fire. Their prompt action was crucial in preventing further damage and controlling the situation. However, the fire did cause heat and soot damage to several neighboring units, highlighting the potential risks associated with such incidents.
Evacuations and Medical Response
As a precautionary measure, approximately 40 residents from the affected block were evacuated by the Police and SCDF. This proactive approach ensured the safety of the residents while emergency services worked to manage the fire.
In the aftermath, five individuals were conveyed to local hospitals for treatment related to smoke inhalation. Two were taken to Singapore General Hospital, two to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and one to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Fortunately, there have been no reports of serious injuries.
Investigation and Public Safety Advisory
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities. In light of this incident, members of the public are reminded of the importance of maintaining a safe living environment. It is crucial to keep common corridors, lift lobbies, and staircases free of clutter, as these obstructions can increase the risk of fire spread, hinder evacuation efforts, and delay emergency response times.
Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with guidelines regarding the use of common areas to ensure safety for all. The SCDF continues to emphasize the importance of fire safety awareness and preparedness in residential settings.
