“[Fire @ Block 2 Jalan Batu]
At about 9.20 am today, SCDF was alerted to a fire in a 6th floor unit of Block 2 Jalan Batu. The fire, which involved the contents of a bedroom, was extinguished by SCDF using a water jet and a compressed air foam backpack.
About 150 residents from the affected block were evacuated by the police as a precautionary measure. There were no reported injuries.
The preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire indicates that it was of electrical origin from a Personal Mobility Device (PMD) that was charging at the time of the fire.
SCDF would like to remind the public on the prevention of PMD fires with the following fire safety tips in the attached infographic.
All owners of non-UL2272 certified PMDs are strongly encouraged to dispose of their devices. Dispose of them for free now and visit go.gov.sg/pmddisposal to find out the disposal locations.”
