The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) shared an update earlier today about a fire that broke out at Block 52, Toa Payoh Lorong 6, last night at about 10.25pm.
Here is their statement:
[Fire @ Block 52 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh ]
On 31 Jan (yesterday) at about 10.25pm, SCDF was alerted to a fire at the above-mentioned location.
The fire, which involved items stored at the service yard of a unit on the 9th floor, was extinguished with two compressed air foam backpacks and one water jet.
About 20 persons, including two occupants from the affected unit, had self-evacuated prior to SCDF’s arrival. The Police and SCDF also evacuated 30 persons from the affected block as a precautionary measure.
SCDF assessed two persons for smoke inhalation and they refused to be conveyed to the hospital. There were no other reported injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire had originated from the battery pack of a Power Assisted Bicycle (PAB).
SCDF would like to remind the public on the prevention of PMD/PAB fires, including not to charge batteries for an extended period of time or overnight. Do not purchase or use non-original batteries. See the accompanying infographic for more fire safety tips.
