[Fire @ No. 29 Kim Chuan Drive]
At about 11.35am today, SCDF was alerted to a fire at No. 29 Kim Chuan Drive. The fire involved stored items comprising kitchenware and other household materials located at the rooftop of a storage warehouse.
Upon SCDF’s arrival, the fire was raging at the rooftop and was threatening to spread. SCDF firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets proceeded up the narrow and debris-filled stairway to conduct offensive firefighting.
SCDF deployed 14 emergency vehicles and about 40 firefighters to the incident. At the height of the operations, three water jets were used to bring the fire under control. Four occupants from the affected premises self-evacuated prior to the arrival of SCDF.
The fire was extinguished by 12.45pm and there were no reported injuries. Damping down operations* are ongoing. The cause of fire is under investigation.
*Damping down refers to the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after a fire is put out. It is to prevent any potential rekindle of fire from the hot burnt surfaces.
