The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded promptly to a fire incident at Block 34 Cassia Crescent today at approximately 12:45pm. Upon receiving the alert, SCDF dispatched firefighters from Kallang Fire Station and Paya Lebar Fire Station to the scene.
Upon arrival, thick black smoke was observed emanating from a unit on the 2nd floor of the residential block, signaling the severity of the situation. Responding to the emergency, the SCDF firefighters quickly formulated a plan to enter the smoke-filled unit and initiate firefighting and rescue operations.
With urgency, a team of firefighters made their way to the front of the unit, where they used a ladder to gain access through the window. Simultaneously, another team entered through the rear entrance via the staircase. The coordinated efforts aimed to contain and extinguish the fire as efficiently as possible.
The fire originated in the kitchen area of the unit and was promptly extinguished using a powerful water jet. The rapid response and well-coordinated firefighting efforts by the SCDF personnel played a vital role in preventing the flames from spreading further and causing more significant damage to the property.
During the firefighting operation, a separate team of firefighters carried out a thorough search of the premises to ensure that no occupants were trapped inside. To their relief, they discovered a person lying unconscious on the floor in one of the bedrooms. Without hesitation, the firefighters carefully extricated the individual from the unit and brought them to the ground floor.
Upon assessing the condition of the occupant, the SCDF team initiated immediate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to provide vital life support until further medical assistance could be provided. An ambulance crew promptly arrived at the scene, taking over the resuscitation efforts and continued administering CPR while en route to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for further medical attention.
As a precautionary measure, approximately 30 individuals from neighboring units were swiftly evacuated by both the Police and SCDF personnel. This precautionary action aimed to ensure the safety of residents and prevent any potential escalation of the situation.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time and is currently under investigation by the SCDF.
