FIRE @ LITTLE INDIA, MAN RESCUED FROM BEDROOM WINDOW BY MEMBERS OF PUBLIC & POLICE

A fire broke out in a third-floor unit at Block 662 Buffalo Road, Singapore, at approximately 8:05 pm on October 17, 2023. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) swiftly responded to the emergency call and managed to control the situation.

Man saved via bedroom window

Before the SCDF’s arrival, a dramatic rescue took place as police officers and members of the public saved a man who was trapped inside one of the bedrooms of the affected unit by assisting the individual through the bedroom window, which faced the corridor.

The rescued man was immediately conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for medical attention.

The fire primarily affected the living room and kitchen of the apartment. SCDF firefighters promptly employed two water jets to extinguish the flames, successfully preventing further escalation of the situation.

Despite their swift response, the rest of the unit sustained significant heat and soot damage due to the intensity of the fire.

Residents evacuated

As a precautionary measure, approximately 20 occupants residing in the same block were evacuated by police officers and SCDF personnel. The authorities ensured the safety of the residents, taking no chances during this emergency situation.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The SCDF and relevant authorities are working diligently to determine what led to this incident.

At about 8:05pm yesterday (17 Oct), SCDF was alerted to a fire in a 3rd floor unit at the abovementioned location.

Before SCDF’s arrival, a man who was inside one of the bedrooms in the affected unit was rescued by police officers and members of the public, through the bedroom window that was facing the corridor. The man was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The fire, which involved contents of the living room and kitchen, was extinguished by SCDF using two water jets. As a result of the fire, the rest of the unit sustained heat and soot damage.

About 20 occupants from the affected block were evacuated by the police officers and SCDF as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
