Former Transport Minister S Iswaran Completes Jail Term
Former Transport Minister S Iswaran has officially completed his jail term, as confirmed by the Singapore Prison Service (SPS) on Friday, June 6. Mr. Iswaran has finished his time under the Home Detention Scheme and is no longer in the custody of the SPS.
Details of His Sentence
While the SPS did not disclose the exact date when Mr. Iswaran concluded his 12-month sentence, it is noted that he could have completed his term on Friday, factoring in a remission period available to inmates who serve two-thirds of their sentence.
Mr. Iswaran was placed on home detention on February 7, 2025, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence at his residence under specific conditions.
Charges and Conviction
On September 24, 2024, Mr. Iswaran pleaded guilty to four charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which prohibits public servants from receiving any valuable items from individuals with whom they have official dealings. These charges were related to receiving valuables from Ong Beng Seng, the majority shareholder of Singapore GP, and construction magnate Lum Kok Seng, while he held ministerial portfolios that interacted with both men.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to one charge of obstructing justice for repaying the cost of a flight to Doha after a delay. A further 30 charges under Section 165 were considered during his sentencing.
