Ministry of Manpower has charged former SAF scholar and officer, Woon Junyang, over unpaid employee salaries.
Junyang faces 3 counts of failing to “pay salary to employee upon dismissal” and 1 count of failing to pay salary “due on termination by the employee due to breach of contract by the employer” according to the ministry.
After receiving a scholarship from the Singapore Armed Forces to study at Stanford University and University College London, Junyang served the Singapore Navy for 7 years as a Naval officer.
Infinium Robotics is his Singapore established start-up which focuses in indoor drone technology. The company has gotten more than S$1 million (US$750,000) from seed investors, with a quarter of that coming from Singapore government scheme SPRING TECS.
The Singapore Manpower Ministry says employers who fail to pay salaries can face up to $15,000 in fines and imprisonment for up to 6 months. Repeat offenders may see their penalties doubled.
