Former head coach of Singapore’s national football team Yap Boon Chuan, who was in charge of the Lions in September 1966 and led them to a historical 4th place finish at the Asian Games, reportedly passed away on 13 February.
The Football Association of Singapore posted a tribute to the great man on their Facebook.
Here is their statement
The FAS is saddened to hear of the passing of former Singapore head coach Yap Boon Chuan.
He took charge of the Lions in September 1966 and memorably led them to a fourth-place finish at the Asian Games just three months later.
A physical education teacher and later a lecturer before his time at the helm of the National Team, Yap put his knowledge to good use with the side as they played four matches in four days.
He would step down in 1971 and spent some time in football management with the FAS.
Our sincerest thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
