The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) said today (24 Jan) that four will be charged for their alleged participation in the New Year’s Eve countdown at Clarke Quay which went viral.
Another four have also been fined for their participation with composition amounts of $1,000 each.
The four that will be charged are aged between 19 to 22 and they will be charged for breaking safe management measures (SMM) rules.
More investigations ongoing
Investigations are still ongoing against other individuals and if they are also found to have flouted any SMM rules, they will also face enforcement actions.
URA did not give any information about the eight which were already charged.
Large crowds gathering
Footage of large crowds gathering at Clarke Quay over the NYE weekend were seen on social media with many of the patrons having their masks down.
On 2 January, the Government’s pandemic task force said that they are aware of these videos circulating on social media and they are looking into it because of some breaches which were done blatantly which might cause mass spreading of the virus.
Enforcement stepped up leading to CNY
URA will also be stepping up enforcement around the island in the lead up to CNY to ensure that SMMs are kept in place.
They added that it is important that everyone remains responsible towards one another as the pandemic is still raging on and by doing so will hopefully cut down infection rates and lower the risks of infecting one another.
URA ended off by saying that they will not pull back from taking stern action against individuals, eateries and establishments who flout the rules.
