According to a statement released by the CNB on January 6, the quantity of drugs confiscated could potentially sustain the addiction of approximately 4,590 drug users for a week.

Details of the Arrests

The raid led to the arrest of two men, aged 25 and 27, at a car park adjacent to Cassia Crescent. The older suspect was found in possession of a staggering 1,855 grams of heroin, 1,032 grams of methamphetamine (commonly known as ‘Ice’), 98 grams of ecstasy tablets, and 300 Erimin-5 tablets. Meanwhile, the younger suspect had 136 grams of ‘Ice’ and 21 grams of cannabis on him.

Further investigations revealed that the CNB officers discovered an extensive cache of drugs in a vehicle near the location of the arrests. This included approximately 11.78 kilograms of cannabis, 1,632 grams of heroin, 923 grams of ‘Ice’, 877 grams of ketamine, 234 grams of ecstasy tablets, and 1,200 Erimin-5 tablets.

As the officers were making the arrests, a third suspect, a 25-year-old man, attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief chase. During his arrest, an offensive weapon was recovered and subsequently handed over to the police. In addition, CNB officers found around 73 grams of ‘Ice’, 21 grams of heroin, 20 Erimin-5 tablets, and a small quantity of ecstasy tablets at the residence of the 27-year-old suspect. A 25-year-old woman, suspected of drug abuse, was also taken into custody at the same location.

Ongoing Investigations

The CNB has confirmed that investigations into the drug-related activities of the arrested individuals are still underway. Under Singaporean law, trafficking or attempting to traffic controlled substances is a serious offense, regardless of whether the act is committed on one’s own behalf or for another party. Those found guilty of trafficking significant amounts of drugs, such as more than 15 grams of pure heroin, over 250 grams of methamphetamine, or more than 500 grams of cannabis, face the possibility of the mandatory death penalty.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges Singapore faces in combating drug-related crimes, as authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to curb the illegal drug trade within the nation.
