My friend and I had been close for years. We had been through thick and thin together and trusted each other. I had even been there for him when he needed money.
So, when he asked me for $300, I was willing to help him out. He said he needed the money for a business venture and he promised to pay me back soon. I didn’t think twice about it and gave him the money.
Disappeared after getting the $300
But then, he went missing. I called and texted him, but I never heard back. I started to worry that something bad had happened to him, but there was nothing I could do.
And then, out of nowhere, he reappeared. He asked me for another $500 and this time, I was suspicious. I asked him where he’d been and why he needed the money. He was evasive and wouldn’t answer my questions.
I was angry, but I was also desperate to get my money back. So, I reluctantly agreed to give him the money. But this time, I made sure to get a written agreement from him that he would pay me back.
Disappeared again after I lent him another $500
Unfortunately, my friend disappeared again, and this time, he didn’t come back. I was out of $800, and I was mad.
I had been there for him when he needed help, and he had taken advantage of my kindness. I had trusted him and it had been a huge mistake.
I never heard from him again, and I eventually accepted that I had been taken for a ride. I was out a lot of money, but I had learned a valuable lesson.
Never again would I lend money to someone without getting something in return. I had been burned once, and I wasn’t going to let it happen again.
