FT BRIBED ICA OFFICER TO EXPEDITE S’PORE PR APPLICATION

Getting a Singapore permanent resident is like a dream for many foreigners. However, a Malaysian foreign talent tried to expedite the process by getting “shortcut” through an agency and implicating an ICA officer with S$1,500 to “expedite” her application.

The Malaysian Woman Fenny Tey Hui Nee gave $1,500 to Sharon Loo Wai Woon who manages her immigration consultancy company to “expedite” the application. Sharon approached her mother Lucy Teo who is working in the ICA and made use of her position as an ICA customer service officer to get insider information on her application.

She accessed the system and checked a total of 20 times for the Malaysian woman’s PR application, her actions were eventually found out by her superiors and the incident came to light.

  • Fenny Tey Hui Nee(foreigner) was sentenced to four weeks of jail
  • Lucy Teo(Mother) was sentenced to 18 weeks of jail
  • Sharon Loo Wai Woon (daughter) was sentenced to 6 weeks jail

Teo and Loo could have been easily jailed for up to five years and fined up to $100,000.
