A husband and wife were sentenced to 4 months and 21 months of jail respectively after been convicted of physically abusing their maid.
As reported the wife Farha Tehseen, 39, has been abusing their domestic helper since the first day she arrived at their household. Her husband Mohammad Tasleem, 41 later joined Farha in the assault of their helper.
Both are Indian national who holds a PR status in Singapore.
The couple were convicted with 9 counts of assault and 1 count of criminal intimidation for the wife and 2 counts of assault for the husband. They have been ordered by the court to pay the victim a total of $5,500 as compensation.
According to the court document, Farha has slapped and punched the victim on the first day of her arrival. Farha has even punched the victim in her right eye as well. Tasleem later joined in the abuse after he found the maid slow in making milk for his two sons.
In another occasion, Farha has kicked the victim in her lower back and drag her out of her room by her hair. The victim was also punched in her nose and caused her to bleed.
In the end, the victim has to climb out of the window to escape from being further abused by the couple.
The husband and wife are set to appeal against the sentence and they are currently out on bail.
