An expat recently posted on the online platform LinkedIn and stated that Singaporeans are entitled. He stated his reasons on why he felt that way. His posting has been shared on both reddit and Hardwarezone and many Singaporean’s have disagreed with his views.
Here is the full post.
Dramatic changes to work passes in Singapore – basically foreigners have no chance of being employed which will in theory allow Singaporeans to get these jobs but does that really help companies in Singapore employ the BEST person for the job?
Raising the EP to $4.5k for non-financial jobs and $5k for financial ones is clearly aimed at the banks to encourage them to stop employing expats from Asia and The West and employ more Singaporeans.
But do locals want to work in banks?
All this does is encourage companies to outsource more work to other countries. If a job can be done remotely it can be done from anywhere, not necessarily Singapore.
You know we employers have a choice? We don’t have to pay this we can outsource overseas
Singaporeans can also get jobs globally, but they don’t.
This new law feeds the whole “Singaporeans are entitled” argument that many expats feel when it comes to employing locals: Not turning up for interviews, no research on the company, quitting when it gets hard, can’t take feedback, move for a $1 more or a promotion, taking no responsibility for client mismanagement, complaining about things they agreed to….
Can they really be surprised if they then don’t then get employed or these jobs move overseas?
