A screenshot of a foreigner’s comments was posted on Hardwarezone forum by user Food_Lover. She stated how Singapore promotes xenophobia and how she actually helps to contribute to the economy of Singapore such as paying for her kids private school, paying for her physio sessions, paying for her vet, etc. Many other members on Hardwarezone found that she was extremely arrogant.
Here was what she stated in her post.
“What I don’t understand is the bulls**t argument about us taking local jobs. If there was someone available to do the job with the right skillset the companies employing most foreigners wouldn’t look beyond Singapore. Why would they pay through the nose to hire foreigners and give out an expat package when they can hire locally at much less cost? Think about it. Stop saying we’re taking your jobs!! We’re not.
Find someone to do my husbands job and we’ll happily leave. I’ll take my kids out of the private school, and stop paying for my weekly physio, stop paying the 3 specialists I see for my chronic medical conditions, stop paying the vets and the pet shops and the landlord and the car hire and the supermarkets and the climbing centre and the woman who runs bootcamp and the takeaway food and the coffee shops and all the many other things. And i’ll close my own business here. And we’ll go. Because frankly at the moment it feels like we’re not wanted so that will all be fine.
Just so worn down and saddened by the xenophobia being openly promoted. It makes me weep. I love it here. We were going to apply for PR but we’re not rich enough and now no chance anyway. We are not wanted. We haven’t taken anyones jobs and I am sick of hearing that we have. Are you saying you think this is ok? For people to behave like this?”
