Any benefits in giving birth in Singapore as a foreigner?
My husband and I are working in Singapore. We both are foreigners. I wanted to consider both the options of delivering my baby in my home country India where the cost is way cheaper ($2000) and delivering in Singapore ($8000-17000).
I have a minimal idea of pros and cons in delivering a child in Singapore. Ideally we want to get a PR here and settle as soon as possible. Will delivering a child here help with that? Any other benefits?
I am not worried too much about the cost as my husband will be coming back and forth to visit me in India. The other costs in India may equate to just delivering a child in Singapore.
Here are what netizens think
- There is no benefit in giving birth in Singapore, will not help your PR application, and if you have any complications, the medical cost will be hefty. You’ll need to have comprehensive insurance or deep pockets.
The only benefit, Singapore’s maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate is super low. The odds are in your favour. - What about other family or support after giving birth? If you can get more accessible support from your husband in Singapore, then maybe it might be better to do it here?
Otherwise if there are more people to take care of you back home then maybe that might be more comfortable - Being born in SG does not necessarily qualify as an S.C., even for children with PR parents.
You want benefits? Try your home country, and for a start, you’d be paying 60% to 90% less on costs with the delivery, and if it’s a son, you needn’t stress over NS.
Genuine advice, go back to India. - Singapore has better healthcare system overall, so it’s just safer, imo anyways. But it doesn’t help with your application at all I would say. If not people will just come to Singapore right before they give birth for a 100% PR/ SC status lol
