The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said earlier today (9 May) that full time NSFs and regulars will no longer need to surrender their NRICs when enlisting, with effect from 15 May.

The same will apply for NSFs enlisting for the Home Team, starting with the net batch of enlistees from May 2022 onwards.

At the moment, all full time NSFs and regulars are required to surrender their NRIC for the SAF identity cards.

However, from 15 May onwards, the military identity cards will still be issued to all NSF and regulars, and it will continue to be the primary document to identify SAF personnel.

MINDEF added that all NRICs will be returned to all NSF and regulars and it is expected to be completed by November later this year.
