The now-infamous Gambas Avenue traffic accident saw 24-year-old Foodpanda rider, Jason Tan, killed after trying to evade a van that switched lanes abruptly and crashing into another motorcyclist, before being run over by another lorry.
The other motorcyclist, Muhammad Aliff, survived; and his mother, Sarah Widjaya, said in a Facebook post that according to witnesses, her son wanted to help Tan despite being critically injured himself.
According to MSNews, who spoke to Aliff’s cousin, Nur Sarah Norazam, Aliff is currently in the ICU following 3 major operations.
Here is what she said on Facebook
It took me some time before I made up my mind to write this down. My apologies but it’s going to be a really long post.
I am not being insensitive here but i need to say this aloud. Everyone is talking about the super 4 rider who passed on at Gambas Avenue.
Yes, I do feel sad for the family lost, the unborn child. My condolences.
What about the R15 rider who was conveyed to the hospital. All I see in every news is 20 years old man conveyed to hospital conscious. Nothing else about him, not even his name.
Did anyone even ask what happened to him? He was so at the wrong place and wrong time. Yes he did not have a wife nor an unborn child.
Let me pour my heart out. Muhammad Alif just had his birthday the day before. He comes from a sibling of 5. He is a nurse.
Witness of the accident told us when he arrived nobody attended to him and he was all alone on the road till these two kind soul came to help.
We even viewed the view cam. Even in such pain, all he keeps on mentioning is he wants to stand up and help the other rider. Paramedic took 25mins to arrive to render help.
Upon reaching the hospital, the doctor says he only has a 50-50 chance of survival as he has really bad internal bleeding, crushed left pelvic, broken ribs, broken wrist, a hole in his left elbow, lots of laceration n a torn lips.
He was warded in ICU. He has gone through 3 major surgery so far and many more to go. Surgery after surgery is mentally n financially heavy for the family. It’s not an easy thing for the family as we are really close to each other.
What happened to his career? Will he be able to perform his career anymore as he loves helping others? Will he be able to do normal simple chores like he used to? What will happen to his future? Did anyone even ask how he was doing?
He is taking it so hard to accept his fate. He is emotionally disturbed and traumatized. He is worried about being a burden to his family.
I am his mom. It breaks my heart to see my child in that situation. I rather it be me in that hospital bed suffering.
Every time he shouts in pain and cries, I try to hide my tears. It shattered all of us as Alif always put others above him and hide all his unhappiness.
He never wants to bother us about his pain or problems. We have been by his hospital bed day and night.
Even though I am very angry and sad, I thank god for giving us another chance to be with him.
