A 22-year-old TikTok user, Glennice Tong, posted a video to warn others about a phishing scam that she almost fell for recently.
In her TikTok video that she posted on 27 January, Tong said that she almost fell for the scam as it was “pretty convicting”, and that she had received a DM on Instagram alleging that her photos were being shared on a “private Telegram group”.
The anonymous user told her that they had already “helped her report” the group but advised her to report the group herself nevertheless.
Tong then asked them for screenshots, to which she was told that they didn’t have them as the group was already reported.
The user then told her that the group was sharing “screenshots of chats” between her and “some guy” and alleged that the group was a new one that was created by the admins of SG Nasi Lemak.
Tong was then sent a link to a website and told to key in her phone number for a “code” that will be sent to her via SMS, and she would then be required to enter her number and the code to attain access.
She then asked why they needed an external site, to which the user said that they were trying to be discreet.
