I (19 F) have a bf (23 M) who has been in my life for a year now.
He and I have very different hobbies. He likes playing sports and watching the news while I like reading fiction and art. I have always loved and accepted him but I don’t feel I get the same treatment.
Whenever I am reading a book, he gets pissed bc he can’t follow the even simplest of stories and feels bad that I can do what he can’t. He keeps telling me that reading fiction is a waste of time and I should focus on my education and enhancing my beauty (I am already conventionally attractive but he wants me to improve).
I recently gave up my cheerleading practice to spend some more time figuring out what my career can be and practising art and that pissed him off. He told me that I think too much of my intellect and I should be better off looking pretty and nothing more.
We fought so much we went on a break and I met this guy (19 M) who pretty much has the same hobbies as I do besides being athletic and good looking. My ex found out about this and is sending me some super mean messages that I’m dumb and reading isn’t going to mask how stupid I am.
Nothing has happened with the new guy I just connect to him better. I do have history with my ex so I am conflicted What do I do?
