Survey: how many couples go dutch?
I would like to know how most couples work on splitting the bill?
I knew my bf around two years ago. When we first started to date, he mentioned nowadays couples go dutch. I think it’s reasonable since we just got together althought I heard from some friends that go dutch is not always true, some bf will just pay. Anyway, we started go dutch and things were fine along.
Our relationship is going stable and he started to plan about our future. At the same time, we still go dutch and occasionally would pay for each other. But I don’t see a mutual future with him by going dutch in the long run. I feel like I am with a long term roommate/friend that going dutch forever. I don’t feel secured. I also don’t know how to start this topic with him.
Today, another guy friend told me go dutch is not usual. I know different couples got different ways. But it’s slowly affects me how I see our relationship in the future.
Would like to seek for advice or opinion on how you guys think about go dutch for dating and married couples?
Here are what netizens think:
- If it bothers you now, it will bother you more later. Its not just the act of paying for your own share when on a date, it’s also about the feeling if your partner is being calculative with you. There’s no norm and it’s best not to compare. Most couples will have some small issues but the happy ones will choose to focus on what’s important and resolve whatever differences that they have. You have bigger issues if you can’t even voice out to him what’s bothering you. Life lesson here. Learn to communicate. Date with the intent to marry? Have the courage to bring up the hard conversations. This is the time to know if you are both compatible to marry each other. What happens after marriage? What happens if you are unable to work? What about bills and payments that is pertaining to pregnancy, hospital bills, childcare etc?
- Depends on what you offer lo… some girls just want free lunch free dinner… but they have nothing to offer in the relationship….
- Doesn’t matter who earns more. Ditch him if he can’t afford a meal for 2
- It’s give and take. Sometimes you treat, sometimes the other party treat.
