A Singaporean girl recently shared on Facebook on how she felt insecure as she felt that her boyfriend and she are in two different worlds. She stated on how her boyfriend works for some big foreign bank in Singapore while she works at some local engineering firm in the West of Singapore.

Hi….I’m a 25year old female who’s feeling insecure with my bf. Whom have been together for more than 1 yr…
My bf works in a big foreign bank and his office and meetings are all in the raffles, tanjong pagar or marina bay area. His office wear are all tailor made and sometimes he wears ties when meeting clients. He goes for power lunch with his clients and after work he chills out with his colleagues in trendy bars, cafes etc. Needless to say the females in his bank are also sharply dressed and very attractive. I’ve seen some of them and the way they dress, speak and conduct themselves they can easily pass off as models. Its an industry where to be successful, one has to look, dress and play the part.
Me, on the other hand, is the opposite. I work in a local engineering firm in the western part of sg, and most days I’m in just polo T and jeans. I don’t even put makeup cos somedays we have to walk the production floor and its just not practical. Our lunch usually is just at the nearby industrial park hawker, where cai peng doesn’t cost >$3.5 usually! I think $3.5 maybe cannot even buy a decent drink if its near my bf workplace.
So ya…recently I feel quite insecure about myself and our relationship. Cos his world is like totally different from mine. He mixes around with beautiful charming ladies everyday and its hard not to think he’s not tempted. Recently he brought me for dinner with his colleagues and I felt so left out. I was the only one without makeup and wearing polo T! I felt like the village girl who first stepped into the city the first time looking up at all the tall buildings and going wow, feeling lost and not sure what to do.
I hope I’m wrong about all these. That things will eventually turn out fine for us. But each day at work I will be thinking, what’s he doing now, who’s he with? If he takes too long to reply my message I will imagine he’s too busy talking to some pretty colleague. I want this doubt to go away but I don’t know how. Ask him to quit his job? Am I that important to him?
