GIRL SAYS SHE LOVES TO CLEAN & WANTS TO WORK AS A CLEANER, BUT MUM REFUSES

I told my mom that I might want to be a cleaner and she laughed at me and said, “My daughter, a cleaner…”

A lot of people live to work, and I carry more of a philosophy that I work to live. I’m a minimalist and just want to make money to survive and my work is not an ingrained part of me.

I‘ve held a lot of odd end jobs – customer service, cooking, daycare, etc. – and my mom holds it out for me that I will find a path. MY path. Or rather, my path that she approves of.

Well, it dawned on me that in all my jobs, my favorite thing to do is clean. I love cleaning. I’m also an introvert that loves being active.

It hadn’t occurred to me to be a cleaner because people can look down on them. But I grew to appreciate people’s peaceful approach and humbled myself.

Truth be told, I would probably LOVE being a cleaner. It sucks that my mom laughed at me, and in turn, all cleaners. You would hate every man-made place you went to if there were no cleaners. It’s an honorable career and one that I’m HAPPY I can push judgement aside, and say, yeah that would probably make my life a little more peaceful. Just me happily cleaning my little heart out.

My parents really want me to have a job that is honoured by people in society, but I just don’t care. So I’m sorry, mom, but I will probably never be rich or as honored as my sister, and when people ask what your youngest daughter does, you might have to embarrassingly tell them “a cleaner” or lie to them through your teeth. But I can’t wait to spend all day cleaning.

Netizens’ comments

  1. I have never been wealthy, but I did indeed make a pretty good income at my job a few years ago. I’ve since changed course and work in a warehouse. I have no stress and I can’t tell you how nice that is!
  2. People underestimate the virtue of a peaceful life where you don’t take your work stress home with you.
  3. Do whatever makes you happy and don’t hang out with insecure or brainwashed people. I don’t get the stigma personally, I think it’s to do with not a lot of people wanting to do it or being squeamish, so they project that feeling to you. the work is ‘too hard’, but they’d also look down on you if you did want to do it and it was ‘too easy’.
  4. Very important job! If you work at a school or hospital you will make a lot of special connections It’s cleaning but also much more. You are not just cleaning, but taking care of the building and everyone inside that building.
