A Singaporean woman posted a video onto her TikTok account about an unfortunate incident that she experienced when she renewed her passport.
The TikTok user, @Zenitsuwuwuwu, said that she waited 7 weeks for her passports to be ready and when she collected it, there was a glaring error.
New passport expires in 9 months
They had printed her new passport’s expiry date as 2023, instead of 2032 – the date of issue on her new passport reads 19 May 2022 and expires on 1 March 2023.
According to the ICA, Singapore passports have a validity period of 10 years – instead of the 9 months period that she received.
She said that she will be going to ICA to enquire further, adding that she needs her passport urgently for a university exchange trip to Germany.
Long wait time
The ICAA said last month they the average waiting time for passport processing is about 6 weeks, due to an overwhelming spike in applications.
They are seeing about 7,000 applications each day, as compared to about 2,000 per day before the pandemic.
