I want to break up with my boyfriend because of his lack of manners
I am a little embarrassed to tell anyone the real reason I want to leave him. I asked him for a break so we have time apart before I make my decision.
I’ve known my boyfriend for 10 months now. We don’t live together, I’m 20F and he’s 21M.
One thing that stood out to me about him was his lack of manners. But he tells me repeatedly that he’ll work on it. I had to literally teach this man how to be a respectful person for 10 months.
And by that I mean greeting people when you come in to their home and not ignoring them. Eating slowly and not messy. He started an argument in public at lunch that almost got us kicked out the restaurant, because I asked him to eat more carefully because he eats and talks with his mouth open and food kept falling out.
He snapped and said he won’t be treated like a dog. And then started yelling and the owners came over to say if he didn’t calm down they’d call the police to leave. That was one of the most humiliating moments of my life. It’s always a cycle of “I’m sorry, I’ll do better.”
He always gets into arguments over dumb things, like me asking him to help out and clean when he comes over, taking turns buying stuff and not me paying all the time. I’m just so done and exhausted I feel like I’m taking care of a child I didn’t ask for who throws tantrums whenever they get mad.
I don’t want to tell him the real reason, but at the same time I’ve approached this issue many times and it doesn’t change. I was looking for advice, but I’ve never confessed to anybody the real reason I want to break up with him.
