According to Shin Min Daily News, some of the injured parties were workers involved in the renovation project, responsible for removing the glass at the time of the incident, while the others were bystanders.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they received a call for help regarding the incident at Block 201E Tampines Street 23 around 1 pm on Friday. Subsequently, the SCDF transported the five injured individuals to Changi General Hospital.

Remnants of the incident could be observed outside the shop, including bloodstains, shards of glass, tissues, and blood-soaked gauze.

A female eyewitness recounted that the workers had successfully removed one piece of glass before proceeding to work on the second piece, which suddenly fell with a loud noise. She noticed one worker sitting on the ground, with injuries on his arms and face.

The witness also mentioned that while other individuals sustained cuts on their hands, their injuries appeared to be less severe compared to the worker mentioned earlier. Paramedics used a stretcher to transport him into the ambulance.

Severed artery in wrist

Another male witness informed Shin Min that nearby residents quickly sought help from nearby clinics upon noticing that the worker’s wrist was bleeding profusely.

Fortunately, a doctor from a clinic arrived promptly to provide assistance. The doctor explained that many clinics were closed for lunch breaks at that time, but upon being informed of the incident, he rushed to the scene to offer aid.

According to the doctor, he believed that the shards of glass had severed the worker’s artery, causing prolonged bleeding. Acting swiftly, he applied pressure to the worker’s arms and tightly bandaged the injuries to control the bleeding.

The doctor reassured that although the worker had lost a significant amount of blood, his condition was not life-threatening.

Speaking to Shin Min, the owner of the spectacle store expressed uncertainty about the cause of the glass falling. However, he speculated that prolonged usage may have contributed to the deterioration of the glass.

Despite the incident, the owner stated that the renovation works would proceed as planned.
