Going Genting Highlands Soon? Drivers Now Need To Pay Toll Before Entering

Singaporeans heading to Genting Highlands from May 28 onwards will need to pay a new toll fee before entering the popular hilltop destination.

The new charges will apply to vehicles entering through Genting Sempah or Gohtong Jaya, following the implementation of a toll system by road operator Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd.

Under the first phase, standard cars and vans will be charged RM5 (about S$1.55), while taxis will pay RM3.30 (around S$1.02). Buses will also be charged RM5, while medium and heavy lorries face higher fees of RM15 and RM25 respectively.

Motorcycles and emergency vehicles will remain exempted from the toll charges.

Authorities also announced that some government workers stationed in Genting Highlands, including staff from schools, clinics, police stations and fire stations, may qualify for exemptions after registering their vehicles.

Starting June 28, permanent residents living in Genting Highlands can also apply for special discounted schemes for up to two vehicles per household. Eligible residents may either enjoy a 10 per cent discount on toll fees or subscribe to a six-month unlimited entry pass.

The operator said toll rates and exemptions may still be reviewed periodically depending on operational and policy requirements.

The move has already sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens questioning why visitors now need to pay extra just to access the tourist hotspot, while others felt the fees were still manageable for regular travellers heading up for food, shopping, casinos and hotel stays.
