Lawrence Wong, the co-chair of the Multi-Ministry Taskforce, provided an update on the Covid-19 situation in Singapore, and how it will affect the second stage of reopening.
He said that Singapore is dealing with a new outbreak of community cases, with the Bukit Merah cluster likely to be “very large”, because the cases are not only breaking out from the market, but from the vicinity as well.
Wong said that unlinked cases appear to be on the rise.
Due to these developments, the government will evaluate the timeline and scope of further reopening on 21 June.
This includes the allowance of more high-risk activities such as dining-in.
Wong said:
“I know this is a difficult time for everyone but I want to assure you that we are doing our very best to ensure that we do not have another flare up before we reach sufficiently high level of vaccination in the community.”
