Nigel Lim Guan Yu, 27, was a Grab driver who drove three female passengers in circles and then brought them to a dead end before attempting to hit on them.
The three incidents reportedly happened in one single morning.
Lim was convicted of four charges and was sentenced on August 24 and jailed three months and two weeks, as well as being fined S$8,000.
The four charges include using criminal force and threatening behaviour, and possession of a controlled drug; with a fifth charge taken into consideration during sentencing.
Sequence of events
The first victim was a 22-year-old social work associate who was picked up at Bedok North some time around 8.45am, she was driven to her destination in Pasir Ris.
She told Lim to turn right as they neared a block but he turned left into a multi-storey carpark. He ignored her when she told him to stop so she could alight.
Lim then drove to the top floor of the carpark and collided with a pillar; he then alighted to check for damage, that was when the woman fled the vehicle.
She was unhurt.
As she was escaping, Lim shouted at her to pay in cash and also told her that he could show her a good time.
Fresh off the heels of the first incident, Lim then went on to continue providing Grab rides moments after.
The second victim was a 20-year-old beauty consultant who wanted to go to Paya Lebar Square.
Lim picked her up and drove in circles inside a carpark, then he told her to move to the front seat because he needed to collect an item, to which she did.
Lim then drove around aimlessly and stopped in another carpark, that was when the woman asked him to cancel the trip and tried to alight, but Lim grabbed her arm as she opened the door.
She escaped unscathed, but was traumatised by the experience and didn’t take any grab rides for two weeks.
Following the escape of his second victim, Lim then carried on picking up passengers.
This time, his third victim was a 17-year-old girl who wanted to go to Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex.
Lim was on the way to the destination but then he turned into a dead end at Ang Mo Kio Street 64, he then lied to the victim that he was a Nanyang Technological University student and told her that he wanted to take her back to his home.
The teen shouted at Lim to take her to her destination but he just sat there in a daze.
He then drove to Ang Mo Kio Street 63, stopping his car; that was when the girl alighted and left $17 on the seat.
The three victims made their respective police reports all on the same day, and Lim was subsequently arrested the following day.
The police then searched his home and found a Class C controlled drug, nimetazepam (also known as Erimin-5), to which Lim said he bought from Geylang.
Lim was unrepresented in court, he told the judge that he was sorry and remorseful, adding that he had a single mother and a foreign wife.
He also added that he was about to finish his court at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
For each count of using threatening behaviour, Lim could have been fined S$5,000.
For using criminal force, the penalty is jail for up to three months, a fine of up to S$1,500, or both.
For possessing a controlled drug, the penalty is jail for up to 10 years, a fine up to S$20,000, or both.
