In a bizarre turn of events, one woman’s routine Grab ride on a Wednesday morning turned into an unexpected ordeal, leaving her frustrated and late for work. Sharing her experience on TikTok (@afterourspring), user Mira recounted a series of unfortunate events that unfolded during what was supposed to be a breezy commute.
The Commuter’s Experience
Setting the stage, Mira left home at 10:11 am, anticipating a smooth ride to work. Little did she know that her journey would take an unexpected turn, leading to a prolonged delay.
After just 10 minutes into the ride, Mira noticed peculiarities within the Grab app. The driver seemed to be “stuck” at Yishun Community Hospital after detouring thrice. The app’s estimated time of arrival continuously fluctuated, causing confusion and frustration.
Attempting to seek clarification, Mira messaged the driver at 10:28 am, expressing her impatience and urging him to either come or cancel the ride. To her dismay, the driver remained unresponsive, refusing to pick up calls or reply to messages.
Grab’s Compensation Offer
As a consolation, Grab notified Mira that she would be entitled to a $5 voucher due to the driver’s failure to pick her up. However, this offered little comfort as the driver failed to arrive by 10:36 am.
Facing the inevitable delay, Mira decided to abandon the idea of a Grab ride and opted for public transport to make it to work. Meanwhile, the app still indicated the driver driving around Yishun Community Hospital.
In a lighthearted twist, Mira speculated about the driver’s predicament, wondering if he was sick or urgently needed a restroom break. These humorous musings provided a brief respite from the frustrating situation.
Grab’s Policy Clarification
Grab’s policies regarding cancellation fees and compensation were highlighted in the article. Users are exempt from a $4 cancellation fee if they wait for more than five minutes after the indicated estimated time of arrival. Conversely, canceling after three minutes incurs compensation for the driver.
