26-year-old Shaikh Mohamad Irsyaad Shaikh Mohamed Ibrahim was sentenced to 3 days imprisonment after pleading guilty on 6 June to causing grievous hurt by a negligent act.
The Grabfood cyclist had crashed into an elderly man while cycling through a HDB void deck, causing the elderly man to suffer a fractured wrist.
What happened?
Irsyaad was cycling towards a McDonald’s outlet at Bedok Reservoir Road on 5 October 2020, and as he was cycling at speed through a void deck, the victim, 71-year-old Ku Yah Chong was walking by.
Irsyaad braked when he saw the elderly man but couldn’t stop in time and hit him, and the elderly man broke his fall with his right hand.
He ended up bleeding from his finger and his face and legs were also swollen.
Irsyaad was unhurt and Ku then called the police as the pair waited for their arrival together, and Ku was then sent to the hospital where he was found with a fractured wrist.
His right hand was then put in a cast and he was given 38 days MC.
The accident was not captured on CCTV as it happened at a blind spot, and Irsyaad has also made about $250 of restitution for Ku’s medical bills.
