Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu stated that Singapore has a long-term plan to make all hawker centres smoke-free.

She stated that this was to protect diners from second-hand smoke and to create a better dining environment for everyone.
All smoking corners will also be removed from hawker centres at opportune moments such as during repairs or renovation works.
Hawker centres will be able to qualify for more funding pertaining to the Toilet Improvement Programme if they remove their smoking corners.
