GROUP OF INTOXICATED MEN FIGHTING AT S’PORE RIVER, KICKS RUBBISH INTO RIVER

A video emerged online showing a group of men who appear to be intoxicated, fighting and kicking rubbish into the Singapore river.

One of the men was seen kicking a bag of items into the river, and the next cut of the video shows the items floating on the waters of the river.

The men were then seen being involved in an altercation with each other as some others came to break up the fight.

There was a lot of pushing and shoving, as well as finger-pointing and shouting in the video.

The group was also seen not wearing their masks at the time.

Potential penalties

According to Chapter 224 of the Penal Code, anyone who disturbs public peace by fighting in public is guilty of committing an affray.

Upon conviction, offenders could face a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

First-time offenders who breach safe distancing measures are fined $300.

For non-compliance with safe management measures under the COVID-19 offenders may be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.

If they are caught by the Police for not wearing a mask or not wearing a mask properly they can be charged under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.
